Official course linksThe Med Bow Rail Marathon & Half Marathon route starts at Lake Owen Trailhead (8 a.m. start); course starts and finishes at Lake Owen. Underfoot, expect the Rail Trail is mostly a packed gravel, 10-foot-wide path, with short segments of singletrack around Lake Owen and one paved highway crossing (Highway 230). It passes Medicine Bow Rail Trail, Lake Owen, Pelton Creek Trailhead, Lincoln Gulch Trailhead and Medicine Bow National Forest. Marathoners board a shuttle bus from Lake Owen at 5:45 a.m. to reach the point-to-point start at Pelton Creek.
