Entry fees are organiser-published figures where held. Value scores and true-cost models are separate methodology-backed signals, not inferred from entry price alone.

Best-value race questions

How does raceindex.org define best-value running events?

Best-value pages use the available source-backed cost signals for each race. Entry fees come from organiser-published data; true-cost and value scores appear only when the required model inputs pass the published methodology.

Are cheapest running events the same as best-value running events?

No. The cheapest entry-fee list shows the lowest organiser-published entry prices. Best-value rankings can also use value score and true-cost signals when those inputs are available.

Why are some distances missing from the best-value rankings?

A distance-specific best-value ranking is published only when enough races have the required source-backed value metric to clear the thin-page guardrail.

Can I estimate total cost for a race?

Yes. The true-cost calculator combines sourced entry fees with modelled travel and accommodation assumptions, and links back to source-backed race pages.
