  • The oldest road race in the state of Indiana, run for the 55th time in 2026. Initiated in 1970 by educators and coaches from Carmel High School and managed since the early 1980s by Indy Runners and Walkers, Indiana's largest RRCA-affiliated, volunteer-led not-for-profit running and walking club
  • Named in memory of Sam Costa, a Chicago Police Department detective and dedicated runner who traveled roughly 200 miles to train and race with friends in central Indiana in the 1960s
  • after he died of cancer in the early 1970s, his friends named their half marathon after him as a memorial
  • Both races have been hosted at Northview Church in Carmel since 2006. The courses were updated in 2024 to improve safety and reduce the number of turns, and are expected to remain unchanged for 2026
  • The half marathon heads in a northeasterly direction to its turnaround point at East 160th Street and River Avenue before returning to the start
