The Leiden Marathon route starts at Koninginnelaan, Leiden (new start from 2026, moved from the Breestraat in the city centre for safety reasons) and finishes at Vismarkt, Leiden. Underfoot, expect mixed surfaces from asphalt to cycle paths, charming back roads and canalside lanes. It passes Leiden canals (grachten), Leiden historic city centre, Vismarkt, Groene Hart polders and windmills. Single loop combining the historic Leiden city centre with nine villages of the Groene Hart, passing typical Dutch polder landscape with mills and cows.
Many roads in the city are closed during the event.
