Qualification status
Runners must have completed a trail/mountain race of 50 miles or longer with at least 8,000 ft of vertical ascent, greater than 75% single track and technical in nature, within the last two years of race day (prior Manitou's finishes also qualify). Rail Trail races, OCRs, and timed/backyard events do not count. Acceptance is at the race director's discretion.

Includes roughly 15 miles on the Devil's Path, frequently called the hardest trail on the East Coast. Long unsupported sections, with portions run in darkness
  • Only nine aid stations (AS #1-#9) across the 53 miles, with long gaps of several hours between some of them and limited crew access
  • Mandatory gear: carry at least 1.0 litre of water, at least 300 calories, a headlamp/torch, and a cell phone
