New York City Marathon travel: where to stay
Choose a hotel only after selecting your official start transport. Midtown Manhattan fits the New York Public Library bus; Lower Manhattan fits the Staten Island Ferry; a New Jersey stay helps only when you can reach your assigned Meadowlands bus; and a finish-side Manhattan stay can simplify the journey after Central Park.
The start is at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, the expo is at the Javits Center, and the finish is in Central Park. No neighbourhood makes all three journeys short. Compare the exact room against your assigned departure point, expo appointment and route home from the runners-only finish area.

NYRR names On Location as its travel coordination provider from the official travel page. Treat any room as a normal purchase: compare the final refundable total, taxes, cancellation deadline and the actual entrance-to-departure route. Partner status does not prove that a particular room is the best value for your plan.
Your selected transport controls race morning
For 2026, NYRR requires runners to select a transport mode in their dashboard and then assigns a departure time from registered or best pace. The official transportation page lists three general modes: Staten Island Ferry from Whitehall Terminal, Midtown Manhattan bus from the New York Public Library, and New Jersey bus from MetLife Stadium Parking Lot K.

The selection window runs from 12:00 ET on 25 August to 23:59 ET on 8 September. That deadline has passed. Runners must use the selected mode and assigned time; NYRR warns that changing modes can create delays and penalties. If your dashboard lacks a valid selection, follow NYRR's instructions rather than inventing a private workaround.
Plan the Javits Center appointment before arrival
The official 2026 expo page places packet pickup at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Eleventh Avenue between West 35th and West 36th Streets, from 29 to 31 October. Every runner must attend in person with photo ID and the runner confirmation form. Proxy pickup is not allowed.

A selected pickup slot is required. Slot selection remains available in the runner dashboard until 16:00 ET on Saturday 31 October, but the runner's own collection deadline is earlier than the expo closing time. Build flight disruption margin around the bib deadline, not the public show hours.
Plan the finish exit before choosing a reunion
The current NYRR finish page says mobile networks may be saturated and tells runners to agree a meeting location outside the runners-only area. Keep the runner's exit path, supporter meeting point and hotel route as three separate steps. A spectator cannot simply wait at the finish line and follow the runner through controlled space.
The live finish page still contains visibly stale 2025 references, including a previous Marathon Monday date. This guide therefore does not carry its exact exit streets, Family Reunion letters or hours into a 2026 plan. Use the final 2026 finish map and runner communications when they are issued, then send the same written meeting instruction to everyone.
Primary meeting
Choose a precise place outside the restricted finish flow and decide how long supporters wait after the tracking app shows a finish.
Backup meeting
Choose a second place or the hotel for use when streets are closed, networks fail or the group misses the first point.
Return route
Map a walking-first route from the final published runner exit. Do not assume a taxi can reach the park boundary on race day.
Choose the airport with the hotel route
New York's useful airport choice depends on flight timing, terminal, hotel and onward transport. Use the operators' current public-transport pages for John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. This guide does not claim one airport is fastest or cheapest.

Check the total stay before paying
- Room total: nightly rate, taxes, mandatory fees, deposit and the final cancellation date.
- Race morning: assigned transport mode and departure time, station or boarding entrance, and a disruption backup.
- Expo: arrival before the selected pickup slot with margin before the hard bib deadline.
- Finish: route from the final 2026 runner exit, plus a reunion point that does not depend on mobile service.
- Food and checkout: confirm an early breakfast solution, room facilities needed for your normal pre-race meal, luggage storage and Monday checkout.
- Airport: terminal-to-hotel plan in both directions, including fares checked from the transport operator.
A lower nightly rate can cost more after a longer stay, non-refundable terms, airport transfers and extra city travel. Compare a complete written total from live quotes; no hotel price or availability on this page is a booking claim.
