Tokyo Marathon: where to stay and plan your weekend
Tokyo is a point-to-point weekend: the race starts in Shinjuku, finishes by Tokyo Station, and requires a separate trip to Tokyo Big Sight for packet pickup.
The practical answer
Choose Shinjuku for the easiest start; choose Marunouchi for the easiest finish
If avoiding an unfamiliar train journey on race morning matters most, begin your accommodation search around Nishi-Shinjuku or Shinjuku. The organiser names Shinjuku and Nishi-Shinjuku as the closest stations to the start area.
If the post-finish journey matters more, compare places around Tokyo Station, Marunouchi or Otemachi. The course finishes on Gyoko-dori beside Tokyo Station, but you must travel west to the Shinjuku start. Tokyo Big Sight is a third location whichever central area you choose.
Judge an exact property by its entrance-to-entrance routes. Tokyo stations can have many exits, and a neighbourhood name does not reveal the walking distance, changes or accessibility of the route you will actually use.

Narita Airport
Narita Airport's official rail map lists the Narita Express to both Tokyo and Shinjuku, while the Skyliner serves Nippori and Keisei Ueno. That makes the Narita Express a connection worth comparing for either principal base, subject to your terminal, arrival time, fare and current timetable.
Check: the service after immigration and baggage collection, plus the walk or transfer from the arrival station to the accommodation.

Haneda Airport
Haneda's official guide says the terminals connect directly to the Keikyu Line and Tokyo Monorail. Those routes feed the city through corridors including Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho; most Shinjuku and Tokyo Station stays still need an onward connection.
Check: the correct terminal station, last connection and whether the final transfer remains comfortable with luggage.
Do not choose by airport name alone. Compare the flight, arrival hour, terminal-to-platform route, number of changes and final station exit. Save the official route pages offline before flying and check live service after landing.

Arrive before your packet-pickup deadline
Runner pickup is at Tokyo Big Sight South Exhibition Halls on Thursday 4 and Friday 5 March, 10:00-20:30 JST, and Saturday 6 March, 10:00-17:30 JST. The public expo remains open 30 minutes later each day. Use the runner deadline, attend in person and bring your passport; proxy and race-day pickup are not permitted. Rehearse the exact start journey
The official course starts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. The FAQ currently names Shinjuku and Nishi-Shinjuku as the closest stations, but says detailed access will appear in the Runner Guidebook scheduled for mid-February 2027. Do not commit to an entrance, train or arrival time until that guide is available. Official 2027 FAQ.

Plan the finish around your baggage choice
The finish is at Tokyo Station / Gyoko-dori. Race-day baggage is a paid option selected during entry and cannot later be added, cancelled or changed. The collection location depends on bib colour and has not yet been published, so check your entry record before assuming what you can leave at the start. Official baggage terms.

Choose a reunion point after the handbook arrives
The organiser has not yet published the 2027 family meeting layout. Keep the meeting point and finish exit blank for now, then add the confirmed location to every traveller's plan rather than copying a previous year's map. Official 2027 FAQ.
International runner practicalities
Keep the passport available
The 2027 FAQ identifies a passport as the valid ID for personal verification at packet pickup. Carry it in your hand luggage with your entry confirmation and the Tokyo Big Sight address.
Set up an IC card
The entry guidelines strongly encourage runners to carry a smartphone and transportation IC card in case the event is stopped after the start. GO TOKYO explains current mobile Suica and PASMO options. Check device compatibility before relying on a mobile-only setup.
Keep routes usable offline
Save your accommodation address, event locations and primary and backup routes. Include station exits and line names in both Roman characters and the form shown by the official source where possible.
